On the night of 9 to 10 June 1940 above Entrammes and St. Berthevin two Handley Page Halifax bombers, MZ 532, MZ-Z and ZA 684, ZA-B, on a mission to bomb the airfield Beausoleil Laval occupied by the Lutfwaffe, were affected by Flack and crashed. The two crews consisting of British, Australian and Dutch were killed instantly.

MZ532 was one of two 10 Sqdn Halifaxes lost on this operation. See: MZ684. Airborne 0021 10 Jun 44 from RAF Melbourne (Yorkshire) to bomb the airfield at Laval. Cause of loss not established. Crashed at St-Berthevin (Mayenn), 4 km W of Laval where all were buried in Valfleury Communal Cemetery together with their Squadron comrades from MZ684. At 36, Sgt Peake was well above the average age for operational aircrew.
